Winner : Jeremy corbyn. The lefty opposition leader increased the Labour Party’s share of the vote more than any other leader since 1945. He said “ People have said they’ve had quite enough of austerity politics, they’ve had quite enough of cuts in public expenditure, underfunding our health service, underfunding our schools and not giving our young people the chance they deserve in our society.” He represents a big win for UK Youth, Who flocked to the polls in his support.
Diversity in power. A record number of women and ethnic minority MPs have been elected. 1 in 3 MPs are now female and over 6% of parliament is non-white.
Loser : Theresa May. The ruling conservative PM called an unnecessary election hoping to strengthen hr position. Now she faces mounting calls to resign and will be in a weaker position to negotiate Brexit.
The European union Brexit talks are set to begin June 19th. The EU will not be strong-armed by a leader with such a weak mandate.
Loser : Scottish National Party. They were gunning for a second independence referendum for Scotland. After losing a third of their seats, that’s unlikely to happen any time soon.
