The United Nations has rejected Saudi Arabia’s new terror list. The list includes charity organization based in Qatar, which provided aid to much needed regions.
Stephane Dujarric is spokersperson for UN Secretary-General Antoni Guterres said “OCHA over the years has built a strong partnership with these organizations based on shared humanitarian principles, which are strictly non-political. For example the Qatari Charity implements projects included in the UN-coordinated humanitarian response plans in Yemen , in Syria and in Iraq.”
Besides the UN, Qatar Charity has also partnered with USAID and Oxfam. Qatar charity says “it has helped about 8 million Syrian since the war began. Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt placed 59 people and 12 organizations that they say have ties with Qatar, on a “terror list”.” Qatar says “ it does not , have not and will not support terrorist groups.”
Qatar Government Statement– “ Our position on countering terrorism is stronger than many of the signatories of the joint statement- a fact that has been conveniently ignored by the authors.”
The list includes 18 Qatari businessmen , politicians, and members ofthr ruling family. There are also 26 Egyptians on the list, including Yusuf Qaradawi, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood had been in power in Egypt until a military coup in 2013.
Qatar Foreign Minister Mohammed Bin AbdulRAhman Al Thani said “ They cannot just accuse me that I am supporting the Muslim Brotherhood because I am listing theme as a terrorist organization. I don’t have any proof to list them as a terrorist organization.”
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said “ The blckade hindering U.S. military actions in the region and the campaign against ISIS.
The U.S. says the current blockade on Qatar is actually harming the fight against extremist groups.
